With the increasing use of GIS, more and more people are looking for ways to expand their knowledge and training, and connect with others in the GIS industry.  A great way to do this is with a GIS User Group.  Currently, the closest user group to the U .P. is out of Traverse City (ENMUG).  EUP Regional Planning is looking to re-establish the ESRI U.P. User Group (EUPMUG).  This group's last activity was early 2000's, and was part of Michigan Tech University.

UPDATE - As of 9/1/2010, we have generated interest from about 30 people. We are planning to hold a one-day conference in October, with the help of NMU in Marquette,.  We plan to have several speakers give presentations and talks about various GIS activities
