What is the Minigrant Program
The Minigrant program is a grants giving partnership financed by the State of Michigan through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) and run by regional re-granting agencies.
Minigrants provide up to $4,000 for locally developed, high quality arts projects, which are special opportunities to address local arts needs and increase public access to the arts. Minigrants support a broad range of artistic expression from all cultures through project which preserve, produce or present the traditional or contemporary arts.
Who Can Apply
Nonprofit organizations, located in Chippewa, Luce and Mackinac counties, including but not limited to service organizations, arts organizations, parks and recreation organizations, professional associations, public and non-public schools, labor unions, cities, townships and villages may apply.

Universities or Colleges
Applications from universities and colleges must do all of the following:
1. demonstrate significant and direct community benefit,
2. document community support and shared project use, and
3. include current letters of support from the community
Minigrants may not be used for activities within the instructional or service responsibilities of colleges or universities or that primarily serve their faculty or students.
Minigrant Dollars Can Be Used For Arts Activities
including but not limited to
* exhibits, readings, performances, workshops, broadcasts
* artist residencies, consultancies, design activities
* commission of art work, restoration of public works of art
* festivals, pow wows, conferences, seminars
* video and film production and screening
* publication of limited edition, original works of an independent non-profit press
* art activities for students

APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR EACH FUNDING ROUND
Deadline* Period that projects MUST take place
Round 1: August 1, 2008 October 1, 2008 - September 30, 2009
Round 2: February 1, 2009 April 1, 2009 - September 30, 2009
* if the first of these months fall on weekends or holidays, the deadline will be the next business day
1. Apply to the funding round during which your project begins.
2. Your project may not start before the beginning date of the funding round you choose. Project debts incurred before the funding round begins cannot be paid with grant funds, nor can payment of these debts be used as cash or in-kind match for your grant.
3. If you select funding round 1 or 2, your project may continue after the end of the funding round, however, all projects must end by the end of the State’s Fiscal Year, September 30, 2009.
4. Be sure your application is in our office, postmarked by the U.S. Post Office, or date stamped by a commercial mail carrier, on or before the deadline of the funding round you chose.
If you hand deliver an application, request a dated receipt.
Metered mail will not be accepted as proof of meeting a deadline.
Faxed applications will not be accepted. No application will be accepted after the deadline.
